Nicola: I’m wondering how early is ‘too early' to send out wedding invitations?
Patsy: It can never be too early!!!
Nicola: Our wedding is on January 26th 2008 in Melbourne (which is about 2 hours from where we live). We hope our guests will book accommodation in the city but want to given them plenty of notice. I’m aware that it's school holidays and the Australian Tennis Open will be drawing to an end!
Patsy: I would ring the possible venues to see what they have now. It could be they are already booked out.
Nicola: I’m not keen to send out ‘save this date’ invitations – I’d rather send the real thing!
Patsy: Couldn't agree more. Why waste postage?
Nicola: We have our own wedding website which will have all the information about the wedding.
Patsy: This is good but remember a lot of older guests won’t even have email, let alone even THINK about going to a website for info. Assuming they knew what a website was.
Nicola: So I was thinking of sending the invites out, then closer to the date (i.e. 2 or 3 months before) sending out something with our website details (in case guests have ‘misplaced’ our invitation!)
Patsy: I think I would send it out now.... why not? What is there to lose? A reminder is excellent but I am concerned that with so much happening at the time of your wedding and even more important, that guests need accommodation, I would be getting in now. A reminder is a must though! |
